Developing Youth Key to Long-term Talent Strategy at FinEX Asia

Building a company that unites finance and technology requires a commitment to developing talented young workers.

To support the development of our fintech talent, two students from top business schools were recommended and selected to participate in our Head Start Program, a 7-week internship at FinEX Asia and AMTD’s Hong Kong headquarters as well as Dianrong’s Shanghai headquarters. The best performer will have the opportunity to intern at a Silicon Valley tech firm in the US.

The Head Start Program was organized by:

  • FinEX Asia Investment Limited, Hong Kong-based fintech company together with
  • Dianrong, leader in online marketplace lending in China
  • AMTD, Hong Kong-based financial institution group with coverage across the world
  • National Cheng Chi University (NCCU) in Taiwan and
  • Singapore Management University (SMU) in Singapore

Real-world experience
The Head Start Program aims to expand the fintech talent pool in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore by nurturing young talent through real-world industry experience. The students selected for the inaugural Head Start class were David Hsiao from NCCU and Jaylen Li from SMU.

David Hsiao is an MBA postgraduate (International Business) student at NCCU Taiwan, selected for his innovative ideas on running an entrepreneurial business as well as his past internship experience in Citi Group.

Jaylen Li is a Bachelor of Science (Economic) student at SMU in Singapore, selected for his strong analytical skill, seen through his active role in SMU’s Investment Club. Throughout the selection process, both students have demonstrated an eagerness to learn about investment management and fintech.

After their 3-week internship with FinEX Asia, David and Jaylen spoke highly of their experience. They worked closely with our operations team and also the marketing team. Within the internship, David worked on the risk management model together with our analysts, and Jaylen helped on the design of the interactive dashboard and learned about valuation models. Both understand how FinEX Asia’s business model operates and appreciated the chance to interact directly with management.

While David and Jaylen enjoyed the people and the ‘family-like’ culture in FinEX Asia, we are also impressed with their active interaction with the FinEX Asia team and their commitment to learning new business practices and concepts. Talent is the one of the key factors for any business to succeed and we are happy to work with prestigious universities, such as NCCU and SMU, to develop our fintech talent.
